Violence Against Adolescent Girls at Schools – Awareness-Raising Session-Nour WGSS Sweida
Case Manager, Hiba Atwani, conducted an awareness-raising session on Violence Against Adolescent Girls in Schools at Nour WGSS in Sweida.
Atwani said, ” School violence is defined as any activity that can create a disturbance in an educational system.School violence can be in various forms, not all of which are physical. It includes verbal and physical altercations. It is any form of aggression , disrespect and contempt for people ,and the transgression of norms and standards in schools. The types of school violence are from teacher to student, from student to teacher, and from student to student.”
Atwani explained the relationship between school violence and students’ ages, displacement, lack of discipline, and disobedience.
In an answer to an inquiry regarding how to prevent school violence, Atwani said, “A few fundamental steps should be followed, first of which is to institute a violence zero-tolerance policy for the school premises. In addition, the culture of nonviolence, peace, forgiveness, communication among children should be implemented in order to help terminate this phenomenon. Periodic meetings between teachers and parents should be held to encourage students to express themselves, speak out, and get to know the teachers’ opinions on students in order to reach a mutual ground of understanding.”
Nour WGSS in sweida, which is funded by the UNFPA, is a developmental center that is mainly concerned with the empowerment of women, building and sustaining their psychological health.
