An Awareness Raising Session Entitled “Child Marriage and Emotional Deprivation”- NFRD Mobile Team- Beit Sahm

NFRD mobile team in Beit Sahm conducted an awareness raising session entitled “Child Marriage and Emotional Deprivation” for the teaching staff of Beit Sahm High School for Girls.
The session which included different interactive activities started with an introductory presentation on child marriage, its causes, and its adverse impact on the society. Moreover, the session discussed how child marriage can invoke emotional deprivation which can later on result in the girls’ inability to  deal with emotional experiences in their lives.
One of the attendees said, “Child marriage destroys a girl’s life and demolishes her dreams and ambitions. It is also known to induce divorce in many cases.”
Another participant shared her story, ” I am a 25 year old widow with 2 children. You can’t come close to imagining how hard it is for me to support my family and provide for my children.”

It is worth mentioning that NFRD, in coordination with the UNFPA, launched a campaign under the slogan “Little with Big Dreams”  to raise awareness on the negative impact of child marriage.
